Second Floor: Student Health Center

The objective is to provide amenities on the first level that will bring students to the facility to facilitate greater visibility and awareness about the services on the second and third floors. This level also serves as the critical intersection between the Well-Being Center and the Athletics facility to encourage integration of services for our student athletes with our campus health care providers. The vision is to provide a balance of spaces that are welcoming and inviting but also ensure patient and client safety, security, privacy, and confidentiality.

  • Student Health Center (SHC)

    The key tenant on the second level is the Student Health Center. The Student Health Center provides evaluation and treatment for illnesses and injuries, assistance in managing chronic disease, and offers a comprehensive program in health education and health maintenance. Their staff of board certified clinicans and registered nurses are experienced in the care of young adults. The Student Health Center is AAAHC accredited, a tangible indicator to patients and their families we provide high quality care.

    Approximately 49 percent of our students visit the Student Health Center with approximately 4,163 patient visits each year. Student Health Center reports a 91 percent overall patient satisfaction with their visit and 99 percent of students would recommend SHC to a friend. The SHC plans include a welcome center lobby and reception desk, five exam rooms, rooms for triage and allergy shots, lab and workstations for doctors and nurses, staff offices, breakroom, and restrooms.

  • Health Promotion Resource Center

    Conveniently located adjacent to the Student Health Center and nearby the Counseling and Psychological Services offices this comprehensive well-being resource center with the centralization of campus resources assist students and employees with the ability to foster a holistic approach to their positive well-being and self-care. This resource center would serve to educate the campus community on the lifelong benefits of maintaining a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle, to empower the community to make informed decisions, develop skills that enhance well-being, and to foster a campus environment in which students and employees thrive intellectually, spiritually, socially, and physically. Self-help screening stations for potential physical and mental health issues, such as stress, depression, alcohol abuse, tobacco use, obesity, high risk sexual behavior, and eating disorders can be effective ways to engage students in becoming advocates of their own health and wellness.

  • Mind-Body Studio

    With its grand windows, colossal double height ceiling, and spectacular view the mind-body studio is a showcase place in the Well-Being Center. This location is dedicated space for all activities related to mind-body wellness. It provides a space for yoga and meditation classes as well as wellness and academic classes. When not scheduled for structured programs, the studio is available for mindfulness and mediation. The mind-body studio have a boutique fitness atmosphere to provide maximum appeal and satisfaction for members. Members will feel an instant calming and relaxation walking into the mind-body studio.

  • Peer Education & Advocacy Suite

    Space is assigned to accommodate the ever increasing number of student wellness peer educator and advocate groups. Students are recognizing the need to be involved in this well-being movement. In response we aim to provide them a place to meet and additional administrative guidance and financial support to these existing and emerging student well-being support groups.

    College health programs play a valuable role in student development by offering opportunities for involvement in volunteer leadership, experiential learning, and training or shadowing programs for future health professionals or as peer health educators. This suite will be designed to accommodate numerous student workstations and as a headquarters for the student leaders of these groups to encourage collaboration and coordination.
